Measure definition
Where writs and setouts lose time
A decomposition of the reasons an execution window was missed, rescheduled, or ran long, coded from our completion reports.
Findings in preparation
The judgment-to-writ interval tells you how much time is lost. This tells you why. In our experience the reasons are logistical rather than legal, and that is a testable claim worth publishing.
How it is computed
- Population
- Setouts in our records with a completion report, including those where the initial window was missed.
- Measure
- Coded reason categories per event — application timing, executing-office queue, crew availability, scope mismatch, access failure, other.
- Reported as
- Share of events by reason category, with counts.
- Cut by
- County and property type.
- Suppression
- Categories below the disclosure threshold are grouped into 'other'.
What this measure does not tell you
- Reason coding is our own and involves judgement — the coding rules are published with the report
- Reflects our operational practice, so it is partly a measure of us
- Not comparable to another provider's coding unless they use the same rules
Definitions are published before findings, deliberately.
Publishing the method first means the number can't be reverse-engineered to suit a conclusion. When the
analysis is complete the findings appear on this page under this definition, unchanged.
